We purchased and moved to our first coffee farm, known as Fike Farms, in Honaunau, Hawaii in 1993. We lived and worked that farm for 7 years. In 1998, we bought 19 1/2 acres 10 miles to the north in Keauhou Mauka, where George planted trees grown from the coffee cherries from the old farm. We have lived there since 2000.
We were first introduced to Hawaii in 1962 when George was transferred from Los Angeles to South Point on the Big Island. We were married in Naalehu (southern most town in the United States for you trivia buffs), and lived there for almost a year before returning to the LA area. After several years and two children, we Fikes packed it up and moved cross country to Maryland. It was there that we all lived until our son left for Virginia Tech, our daughter for Georgia Tech, and finally, we, the parents, returned to the Big Island.
We just thought it would be nice to give you an idea of from whom you are getting your coffee. A lot of hard work and love of the land and the lifestyle goes into every bag of coffee - We hope you decide to give Fike Farms Coffee a try.
